The piece is part of the #NoDejesHuella (#LeaveNoTrace) campaign and tells the story of a tourist who attempts to take an Antarctic feather home as a souvenir. Through this narrative, the short film highlights the importance of visiting Antarctica without removing objects or elements from its natural environment.
The short film was developed through a workflow that combined different Generative Artificial Intelligence tools with human editing and creative direction. ChatGPT was used as a guide throughout the creative process: Krea AI for image generation, Runway AI for animation, and Suno AI to create the musical pieces “Frozen Echoes” and “Frozen Silence” Sound effects were sourced from Pixabay, while audiovisual editing was carried out using CapCut. Human editing and supervision were led by Nadia Politis, who integrated the different tools and resources into the final piece.
As part of the creative process, limitations in the use of Artificial Intelligence to represent Antarctic biodiversity were also identified, particularly when generating illustrations and animations of species such as invertebrates, mollusks, fish, and plants.
This experience highlights one of the current challenges of these technologies when recreating environments and organisms that are less represented in their visual reference data, raising new questions about how AI can be used to portray lesser-known regions such as Antarctica, which nevertheless play a fundamental role in understanding the functioning and balance of our planet.
