BASE Millennium Institute Data Portal
The BASE Millennium Institute Research Data Portal is a platform created to gather, organize, and share the scientific data generated by the institute. Its purpose is to facilitate access to high-quality information on Antarctic and sub-Antarctic biodiversity, promoting open science and strengthening collaboration among researchers, institutions, public agencies, and society.
As the BASE Millennium Institute, we are strongly committed to generating and publishing data under FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable), ensuring that data are easy to locate in open-access repositories, standardized for interoperability, and accompanied by the documentation needed to be understood and reused in new research.
Scientific objective
The portal integrates datasets published since 2022 in international open-access repositories such as GBIF, Zenodo, GenBank, and other platforms. These data are obtained directly from their source repositories, ensuring that information remains up to date and linked to the official versions published by their authors. It also includes an integrated biological records explorer that allows users to visualize the presence of Antarctic and sub-Antarctic species related to our research.
The BASE Millennium Institute data portal was developed autonomously by the Data Management Unit led by Catalina Marin, data manager of the ANID center of excellence, using public APIs that allow integration of different repositories. For technical inquiries, contact cmarin@institutobase.cl.
