In this context, “This Is My Science” was launched in 2024 as an audiovisual campaign to mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The campaign invited researchers from the BASE Millennium Institute to record and share their everyday experiences studying extreme environments. Through short videos created for social media, the researchers showcase their daily activities in the laboratory and their experiences in the field, offering audiences a more personal and relatable perspective on scientific research.
These campaigns also provide an opportunity to make the most of research teams’ presence in Antarctica by creating content directly from the places where scientific research takes place. In this way, social media becomes a window into scientific work from the perspective of those carrying it out, broadening public access to experiences taking place in one of the most remote regions on the planet.
